Two Arrested After Home Invasion, Police Chase in Martinsville

Martinsville, VA – What began as a robbery in Martinsville, ended as a police chase and resulting crash on Route 58 in Henry County near the Chatmoss area Monday.

A report of a home invasion robbery was called in to Martinsville police by a victim at 907 Askin Street around Noon. According to the victim, a black male entered the residence and forced the victim to the ground, grabbing her purse and leaving the residence.

The suspect left the residence and got into a white Dodge Neon with a driver, who was waiting for him outside the residence.

Around 2:47 p.m., Officer Jeremy Purvis spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. When officer Purvis turned around to pursue the vehicle, a police chase began through the City of Martinsville and into Henry County on Route 58 East towards the Chatmoss area.

During the pursuit the suspect vehicle struck crashed into another vehicle traveling East on 58 causing the suspect vehicle to lose control and cross the median of Route 58 and come to a stop into an embankment.

No one was seriously injured in the accident.

ABC 13 Media Partner, BTW-21 TV out of Collinsville provided pictures of the scene soon after the chase ended.

The driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle were taken into custody and the following charges were placed on each suspect. The case is still under investigation and more charges may be pending.

Walter Dion Rich, 25, of Collinsville is charged with breaking and entering, robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery

Christopher O'Bryan Moorehead, 20, of Martinsville is charged with felony to elude police, driving with a suspended license, and felony hit and run and reckless driving.
