Cumberland County commissioners seek 1 percent sales tax

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

It could soon cost you more to shop in Cumberland County.

On Monday, county commissioners agreed to ask the state legislature for approval to implement a one percent sales tax. In return, homeowners would pay less in property taxes.

Commissioners said the move could save the average homeowner about $700 a year.

If approved by the legislature, the one percent sales tax would be in addition to the state's six percent sales tax.
