Lancaster City Police were waiting on the Coroner before calling it a homicide investigation, but autopsy results released Tuesday afternoon confirmed their suspicions. The cause of death has been ruled death by "sharp force trauma."
Lancaster's first homicide victim of the year has been identified as 59-year-old Allan Wayne Hess.
Hess had recently been staying with the tenant of the first-floor apartment on West Walnut Street for a short period of time.
The tenant of this residence was located, and investigators have spoken with him. His whereabouts during the incident have been accounted for, and he has been cooperative with authorities.
The Lancaster County coroner has ruled the cause of death to be sharp force trauma and the manner of death to be homicide.
Police are continuing their investigation.
Anyone with information may call Lancaster City Police at 717-735-3300.
