Franklin County website matches workers with employers
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
A county once known as a rural farming area is now being called a place for opportunity. Noel Purdy, Executive Director of the Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation, said many businesses have chosen Franklin County as a place to set up shop.
"We have several world class organizations like Manitowoc Crane, Volvo Construction, Vacon, these are international organizations and companies that have a range of opportunities," she said.
Along the Interstate 81 Corridor, the landscape of Franklin County has transformed from rolling hills and stone barns to a place where these new companies seem to be just about everywhere you look.
A website called FranklinCountyWorks.com is connecting people to it all. "It's a great resource to step back and see that while we are in a rural area, we have a lot of world class opportunity," Purdy said.
Users of the website can upload resumes and be connected to jobs, and companies can recruit workers. There is also information about housing, living expenses and educational opportunities. Since last year, more than 16,000 job seekers have used the site, and there are currently more than 900 users registered on the job board.
"It speaks well to what's happening in Franklin County and that we have the infrastructure to build our local human resource capital and offer good paying jobs to people that are already here as well as to attract people from outside the area to come here," Purdy said.
