COLUMBIA, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police have identified a man who was struck by a tractor-trailer Wednesday afternoon on Route 30 in Lancaster County.

West Hempfield Township police said 57-year-old Jesse Roberts Jr., of Lititz, suffered severe trauma to his entire body, but his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Roberts had parked along the westbound berm just east of the Malleable Road overpass near Columbia. Witnesses said it appeared he intentionally stepped into the travel lane, according to police.

The impact threw Roberts across the travel lanes and toward the berm and grassy area. He was listed in critical condition at Lancaster General Hospital.

The crash closed Route 30 West for about two hours. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Police said no charges have been filed so far, but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call West Hempfield Township police at 717-285-5191.
