Ephrata police are investigating a pair of daytime burglaries in which the thieves entered the homes by smashing rear windows.
The burglaries occurred between noon and 4 p.m. Thursday within two blocks of one another; in the 200 block of West Chestnut Street and the first block of Highland Avenue, police said.
Police said a white male in his late teens or early twenties, and wearing a brown jacket and a cap, was seen in the neighborhood looking in windows.
The person also rang a neighbor's doorbell and asked the resident a question, likely to determine if anyone was home, police said.
The stolen property includes jewelry and other small valuables.
