Francisco Lazano-Adorno
LEBANON, Pa. (WHTM) -
A suspected thief was caught in the act, but not by police.
John Nicholas says after he had a package stolen from the front porch of his Lebanon home last week, he decided to see if the thief would return.
Nicholas put a dummy package on his front porch and was waiting and watching Tuesday from inside his home. When a man tried to take it, Nicholas confronted him.
"He was pretty scared," Nicholas said. "He was getting caught, and I went ahead and took the keys out of the ignition to shut his car off and went ahead and called the police."
Responding officers arrested 22-year-old Francisco Lazano-Adorno and charged him with theft and receiving stolen property.
Lebanon Police Chief Daniel Wright is relieved it ended well.
"This kind of thing is uncommon, and I would not advise people try and catch people in this case," Wright said. "It's not their job."
Police said additional charges are pending against Lazano-Adorno because they found more packages from other addresses in his possession.
He was sent to Lebanon County Prison on $9,500 bail.
