Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg officials celebrated the beginning of construction for the city's new bus transfer station Monday morning.
A ceremonial groundbreaking at the site on Kemper Street, across from the Amtrak station marked the start of the project.
Officials say the new transfer station will have a covered waiting area and will also be LEED certified, which means it is environmentally friendly.
Officials say that the new location will also be much safer for riders.
"Multimodal transportation is the wave of the future and we were just delighted to find property that was right beside the train station. So many folks are going to be using both means of transportation," said Lisa Dibble, Vice President of the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company.
This transfer station will take the place of the current bus station in the Plaza.
