A Lower Paxton police officer's new assignment could be serving as an armed school resource officer at middle schools in the Central Dauphin School District.
Members of the department spoke about the proposal at Monday night's school board meeting at Central Dauphin East High School.
Lt. Gary Seefeldt laid out the plan, which would have an officer rotating through the district's three middle schools in the township at least two days a week. Those schools are Central Dauphin Middle School, Central Dauphin East Middle School and Linglestown Middle School.
The school resource officer would also serve as a point of contact or liaison between the schools and the police department.
"Everything we can do to make our schools safe from outside threats and inside threats, we want to do," Seefeldt said.
The board is set to vote on the matter at its next meeting Monday, January 28.
