Traffic pattern on George Wade Bridge to change Friday night

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The traffic pattern on the southbound portion of the George Wade Bridge will change Friday night as contractors prepare for the next phase of a $36.5 billion rehabilitation project.

The southbound lanes, which now border the southbound express lane toward the center of the bridge, will be shifted toward the outer portion of the bridge as workers begin repairs on the current lanes.

This work is part of a project that began in October 2009 and is scheduled to be completed this summer. Once the project is finished, the bridge will be removed from its classification as structurally deficit.

The 40-year-old bridge carries six lanes of traffic and nearly 64,000 vehicles every day.
