FAIRFIELD, Pa. (WHTM) -
An elderly woman was found dead after a fire Sunday morning in her Adams County home.
Viola Strausbaugh, 79, was found in the living room of her single story home at 1873 Mount Hope Road in Hamiltonban Township, according to investigators.
Authorities said she died of smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined. State police fire marshal Frank Hershey said no foul play was suspected. The home is a total loss.
Dave Millstein, assistant chief of Fairfield Fire and EMS, said firefighters were dispatched at 7:45 a.m. and could not immediately go into the home because there was heavy fire on the right half and heavy smoke throughout the residence.
He said the victim has found at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Millstein added that a firefighter suffered a minor injury that did not require treatment.
