HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A former employee has been charged with stealing more than $120,000 from South Central Emergency Medical Services, according to state police.

Virginia Stapf, 45, of Lewisberry, has been charged with theft and unlawful use of a computer.

Police said Stapf, an administrative assistant, purchased $121,772,58 worth of items that were not authorized using a South Central EMS credit card between 2008 and April 2012. According to the criminal complaint, Stapf made the purchases using a work computer.

South Central EMS, at 8065 Allentown Boulevard in East Hanover Township, is a non-profit ambulance service.

Chief and CEO Jason Campbell said Stapf has not been employed by South Central EMS since April 2012. Campbell said he uncovered that Stapf was using the card for personal affairs.

State police said the charges were discovered in April. The incident was brought to police on  November 29.

Campbell said South Central EMS has sought and recovered an undisclosed amount from its insurance carrier, and that the theft has not and will not hinder the ability of the organization.

He added that the organization intends to request the maximum sentence in the case.
