Sandy Level, VA - The Sandy Level community honored MLK day with a pledge against violence.

Hundreds participated in the third annual Stop the Violence walk. The walk ended at St. John's Baptist Church.

Singing, musical performances and prayer were central focuses of the day. Attendees pledged to resolve conflicts through peaceful ways.

The event organizer, Garrett Dillard, says he started putting on this event after his brother was killed a couple years ago.

"It means a lot for the community. I hate when people ask what it means to me or about me. It's about the community. This is where I grew up, this is a place I love," Dillard said.

Dillard also organized a gun buyback program to get firearms off the streets. He says there will be another fundraiser in March.
