Cars stolen while warming up

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police are investigating two separate auto thefts that occurred when the owners left their vehicles on and unoccupied to warm up.

Susquehanna Township Police said both vehicles were taken after the owners went back inside their residences, leaving the car engines running and the vehicles unlocked.  On Friday, Jan. 18 around 8 a.m. an unknown individual stole a 2003 Cadillac as it sat running along the street in the 2200 block of Boas Street.

That vehicle was later located, unoccupied,  in the 1900 block of Zarker Street in Harrisburg.

On Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 6 a.m. a 2009 silver Ford Fusion was stolen while sitting running in the driveway of a residence in the 3500 block of Schoolhouse Lane. The owner had started the car and went inside his residence. He came back outside two minutes later to find it driving away.

Investigators are asking anyone with information or witnesses of these incidents to contact police at 909-9242.

Police also would like to warn citizens against leaving an unoccupied vehicle running at any time.
