Lynchburg, VA - The United Way of Central Virginia is hosting its third annual Bowl-A-Thon this weekend.
Areva sponsored this year's event at AMF Lynchburg Lanes. The event brings money to the organization with the help of local businesses. Leaders ask employees to create bowling teams by raising or donating $35 per player.
Saturday afternoon, a large crowd came out to represent the Babcock and Wilcox Company. Employees and their families took over the bowling center--using all 39 lanes.
In total, B&W raised $10,000 for the United Way.
"The response has been outstanding. We probably have about 600 bowlers that will be coming out during the course of the weekend," said Marie Martin, the executive director of the United Way of Central Virginia.
United Way organizers hope to raise about $40,000 by the end of the weekend.
If you're interested in taking part in the Bowl-A-Thon, they still have lanes open for Sunday. You can come out noon to 3 p.m. It's $35 per person, and you must have five people on a team.
