State police in Lykens are investigating the attempted theft of more than $15,000 from the Upper Dauphin School District.
An unknown person acting as a representative of the U.S. Department of Transportation on January 16 faxed a form requesting financial account information to the Upper Dauphin Middle School, police said in a report.
The school's business manager sent the information with her signature, and on January 29 the unknown person used the financial information and the business manager's signature to attempt the transfer of $15,822.77 from the school's account, police said.
The school's financial institution stopped the transaction from taking place.
