The heavy rain is long gone but Thursday, flooding is a big issue across the viewing area.
Officials in Pulaski County have declared a state of local emergency Thursday due to high flood waters.
County officials issued a mandatory evacuation for the following communities: Parrott, Belspring, Hiwassee, Delton, and Allisonia.
Officials say a call was made to residents in those communities to advise them of the evacuation. There will be police and emergency crews in the area.
Pulaski County will open a shelter at the Pulaski County High School.
There is some flooding from the Roanoke River from Wasena Park in the
southwest part of the city. Flooding has led to dozens of street
closures in Roanoke, Salem and Vinton.
In Salem, officials have closed sections of Riverside Drive after heavy rain overnight. The following sections of the road are closed:
W. Riverside from Mill Lane to Duguids
W. Riverside from Mill Lane to 12 o'clock Knob
E. Riverside from Front to Colorado
E. Riverside from Colorado to Apperson
E. Riverside from Apperson to Tucker
Flooding is also an issue on many backroads Thursday in Bedford County. A bridge on Lazenbury Road was covered by water off Lankford Mills Road. Officials say other parts of Lazenbury Road are also closed.
In Danville, the water in the Dan River is very high and moving fast.
Flood stage there is 19 feet, and the National Weather Service says the
river will be about 1.5 feet above flood stage by Friday afternoon.
Salem, VA - Beginning Friday, Aug. 1, a new temporary Park and Ride lot in Christiansburg will open to replace the existing Park and Ride lot off Interstate 81 at exit 118 near Falling Branch Elementary School. More >>
