Amherst Co., VA – Officials in Amherst County are reminding people to vaccinate their dogs and cats against rabies.
Official say in the recent years, there have been a number of incidents in the county in which people were exposed to rabies.
They say a local kitten tested positive for rabies this month. As a result, three veterinary employees and three other family members had to be treated with a series of injections.
Amherst County officials are also reminding residents that people who keep animals that have rabies and could expose it to humans, could be guilty of a class 2 misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine.
