Benjamin M. Siar Jr.
LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -
Authorities say they've finished their search a Lancaster County
funeral home where four decomposing bodies were discovered last week.
Lancaster
County District Attorney Craig Stedman said investigators are now going
through records at the Gundel Funeral Home in Conestoga. The remains
have been taken to the county's forensic center.
The owner of the
funeral home, 41-year-old Benjamin M. Siar Jr., remained in the
Lancaster County Prison on $250,000 bail Monday. He has been charged
with four counts each of theft and abuse of a corpse.
Authorities said Sire was paid more than $13,000 by four families for funeral and cremation services that were not provided.
The
bodies were in various stages of decomposition when police searched the
business Thursday and found the remains on a basement table, in a
cooling unit, and in a cardboard box in the garage.
According to
Stedman, one of the bodies was that of a 2-year-old Lancaster girl who
was the victim of a homicide, while the other remains were those of
elderly women who had died since December 20.
