Survey says people want mates who are out of debt

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

From red roses to red ink: single people apparently want their mate without any debt.

Nearly 5,500 singles over the age of 21 were polled for a USA Today survey performed by MarketTools, Inc.  The participants came from across the country.

The survey found 65 percent would not date someone who had more than $5,000 in credit card debit and 54 percent said they wouldn't date someone with significant student loans.

"Who doesn't have debt in America, so I just personally wouldn't care," college student Isaiah Muhammad said.

"I think it speaks to someone's character," Dana Gorzelany-Mostak of Carlisle said.

In that same survey, nearly half of participants said they would date someone who lives at home with their parents.
