The former manager of a VFW post in York County admitted she stole more than $32,000 from the organization within a week as part of her involvement in a scam, according to charging documents.
Sharon K. Livelsberger, 55, of York, was manager of the Kruetz Creek Valley VFW in Hellam Township when the money was discovered missing in November, the criminal complaint states.
During an interview December 5, Livelsberger told township police she visited several Western Union locations a day to send the money, and explained she was "gambling" the money away as she was repeatedly told she would see returns on what she was providing, according to the documents.
She told police she thought the loss was around $40,000, but agreed with the amount of $32,196.63 provided by the post's bookkeeper, documents state.
Livelsberger was charged with two counts of theft December 13 and waived a preliminary hearing January 16. A formal arraignment in York County court was scheduled February 15.
