Dozens arrested following major drug sweep in York

Posted: Updated:
YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Dozens of people are in custody after a major drug sweep in York. Police are being very tight-lipped about this investigation, but they do say several people are behind bars after a drug-related sweep Wednesday morning.

Officers spread out across York rounding up suspects in a sweep dubbed Operation Sunrise. It involved several different agencies, including city and state police, and the York County Drug Task Force. Police say this was the result of an 18-month drug and gang investigation.

At one point, a state police helicopter flew over the city. Police say that served as an additional eye for them, and to make sure no one tried to escape. In all, 80 criminal arrest warrants were issued.

"Currently at this time there are over 30 individuals taken into custody, and an undetermined amount of cash, weapons, drugs, and guns," said Trooper Rob Hicks of the PA State Police.

Police plan to release much more information during a press conference Thursday morning.
