Free cash? Not today, police say

Posted: Updated:
YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

A pile of money that blew through the parking lot of a central Pennsylvania shopping center was no gift or giveaway.

Police in York County said the rightful owner wants it back, and they're looking for anyone who may have helped themselves to some free cash.

According to York Area Regional police, a large sum of money was accidentally dropped January 31 when the owner was getting out of their vehicle at the Giant food store in the Windsor Commons Shopping Center.

High winds blew the money across the parking lot, and police said they have witnesses who saw people jumping out of their cars, grabbing the cash, and then driving away.

One honest person found some of the money and called 911.

Police said they would now like to return as much, if not all, to the rightful owner.

Anyone in possession of the money, or knows someone who is, is asked to call York Area Regional police at 717-741-1259.
