The Red Cross needs your help

Posted: Updated:

On Thursday morning, a fire erupted at a mobile home in South Annville Township, Lebanon County. Six people lived there, including a child and disabled man. First responders were on the scene, and so were volunteers with the American Red Cross.

Another fire erupted in the Chambersburg area a few hours later. Officials said it started at the back of the home. The Red Cross was also there to help after the blaze was put out.

This is the time of year the Red Cross describes as "fire season." Officials said they typically see a spike in house fires during this time period.

After helping so many, local Red Cross officials said they now need your help. They are putting out a plea for volunteers and donations because they're having trouble keeping up with demand.

In January alone, the American Red Cross serving Central Pennsylvania assisted 81 families and 225 people, many of them fire victims.

In December, they responded to 52 disasters, caring for 77 families.

They provide everything from food to temporary shelter for those affected.

You can make a donation online by visiting www.redcross.org or www.redcross-scpa.org. You can also call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
