BAE Systems to cut 175 jobs in York

Posted: Updated:
YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

BAE Systems has announced it will lay off about 175 employees at its York facility over the next few months.

A spokesman for the defense contractor said the job reduction is primarily due to a decrease in production for the Bradley fighting vehicle and the M88A2 HERCULES Recovery Vehicle. Work on a third military vehicle, the Medium Mine Protected Vehicle, is scheduled to end in the spring.

Spokesman Randy Coble said the company will provide advance notice to employees affected by the reductions.

Affected union employees are eligible for benefits under their collective bargaining agreement, while other employees are eligible for severance benefits.

Employees may also apply for open positions at BAE, Coble said.
