Pittsylvania Co. Schools to Hold Meetings on School Security

Posted:

Pittsylvania Co, VA - Pittsylvania County Schools are taking the initiative to beef up school security.

The Pittsylvania Co. Sheriff's Office is going to have a series of school safety meetings across the county to bring their plan straight into the community.

The new measures that were originally proposed in a press conference last month have been gaining support in the community.

Sheriff Mike Taylor held an informational meeting in Chatham to detail his seven part school safety initiative, which includes bringing metal detectors and armed deputies into all county schools.

The turnout at that meeting was substantial, but Sheriff Taylor and school officials still want to give parents who couldn't make it that night the opportunity to be heard.

Assistant Superintendent Jeff Early says Tuesday Night's meeting will be the first of four meetings in the weeks ahead.

Tuesday Night's meeting is at the Dan River High School at 7 p.m.

Future meetings are as follows:

Gretna High School: February 19
Tunstall High: February 26
Chatham High: March 4

All meetings begin at 7 p.m.
