Appomattox, VA - Christopher Speight is charged with three counts of capital murder and one count of attempted capital murder. More than three years ago, eight people were shot to death in and around his Spout Spring home.
The Commonwealth's attorney in Appomattox isn't giving many details, including a meeting he had with the victim's families on Friday.
In an unusual move, Christopher Speight will be appearing in court himself.
Speight was arrested in January 2010 after a two day manhunt where he allegedly shot at a state police helicopter.
Law enforcement officers say Shannon Sipe, his wife, Lauralee, and their four-year-old son Joshua were gunned down on January 17, 2010.
Two days later, officers say Lauralee's daughter from a previous marriage returned home from a sleep over, when she, Bo Scruggs, Emily Quarles and Quarles' two parents were killed outside.
Speight's trial has been delayed several times while prosecutors wait for mental health evaluations to be finished. The evaluations were supposed to be completed last month.
