On Monday a Peach Bottom Township man was convicted for the attempted rape and homicide of a 19-year-old woman.

Donald Michael Kloch Sr., 51, faced charges for trying to assault and shoot the girl before her father and a family friend intervened.

According to authorities, the attempted assault took place following a botched drug deal during which Kloch lost $880. Police said he blamed the girl and threatened her with a double-barrel shotgun before trying to rape her in his bedroom.

When she tried to escape, he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her back toward his bed, officers reported.

During the struggle, the victim's phone rang, and Kloch accidentally answered it while snatching it away from her.

The girl's mother, who was on the other end of the call, heard her daughter begging someone not to hurt her. Her parents then set out to find her, accompanied by a family friend. After locating her at Kloch's home, the girl's father and the family friend—both of whom were in their 60s—burst in and disarmed the daughter's assailant, police reported.

The jury found Kloch guilty of many charges including attempted homicide, attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated assault.

After the verdict was announced, Kloch's bail was revoked, and he was handcuffed and led out of the courtroom by sheriff's deputies.
