Lower Allen Township approves Walmart plan

Posted: Updated:
CAMP HILL, Pa. (WHTM) -

Another Walmart is coming to Cumberland County.

On Monday night, Lower Allen Township's Board of Commissioners approved a final plan for a Walmart on the 3400 block of Hartzdale Drive near the Capital City Mall. The location used to be the Forbes Chevrolet dealership.

The final plan has several changes from the preliminary sketches. It does not include an elevated parking deck, and loading docks were moved so truck lights would point away from nearby homes.

The store would be open 24 hours a day.

Still, some residents are displeased. They have been fighting the plan for more than a year.

"You are to protect and provide and improve property values, engage in making sure economic conditions are best met. When I look at this I say, 'you have failed to do that," one woman said to the board during Monday's meeting.

Township officials said construction could start in the next couple of months.
