Pa. guard members deploy to aid Conn. cleanup

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. (WHTM) -

A little over 80 members of the Pennsylvania National Guard deployed today to help with blizzard cleanup efforts in Connecticut.

Connecticut was one of the many state's ravaged by an intense Nor'easter last week. Up to 30 inches of snow fell in some areas of the state.

The Pennsylvania guard members will work long hours to help haul all of the snow. They are bringing heavy equipment with them to help with removal.

About half of the members left from Fort Indiantown Gap Tuesday morning after just one day notice about the mission. Being away from their family is a big sacrifice but they say it's worth it.

"When you leave and every body is happy and they are saying 'Thank you,' it's not so much that I do it to get the pat on the back but just to know that I helped somebody that really needed it, " said Staff Sergeant Justin Martz.

The guardsmen will be gone for about a week.
