Harrisburg hoping state loan will help with sinkholes

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Pay for repairs now, hope the state can help with funding a little later. That appears to be the mindset in Harrisburg toward emergency sinkhole fixes on North 4th Street.

On Tuesday, Harrisburg City Council voted to front the money for the project.

They now plan to reach out to a state group called PENNVEST in the hope of receiving a low interest loan and a grant.

The money would help for repairs on North 4th Street and at North 3rd and Woodbine Streets, the site of yet another sinkhole.

The city is asking for $1.7 million.

Reports indicate there are more than 40 sinkholes in the city.
