HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police are investigating the death of a Harrisburg man who was found seriously injured in his bed on the 1500 block of Vernon Street in Harrisburg this morning.

This is Harrisburg's second homicide in this week.

Police say they responded to the 1500 block of Vernon Street at 11:25 a.m. after receiving a call that two men were fighting with hammers.

Inside they found a 55-year-old man on the floor with stab wounds to his back. In a second floor bedroom they found 60-year-old Jose Vazquez who was suffering from massive head trauma and injures.

Harrisburg Police Chief Pierre Ritter said he was bludgeoned to death.

Police say the 55-year-old man was stabbed and bludgeoned. He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover. He had reportedly lived with Jose Vazquez for the past few days, according to police.

Ritter originally told abc27 that Vazquez died after a fight broke out between three men inside his home. Vazquez's brother, who was in the home at the time of the incident, said he came to visit his brother. When he arrived, the 55-year-old man tried to stop him and hit him on the side of the head with a large hammer.

A struggle ensued and the 55-year-old man was stabbed as he tried to hit Vazquez's brother again. Police say a witness from York, Pa. subdued the man.

Vazquez's brother was detained and taken in for questioning. He has since been released.

He suffered a large contusion to the side of his head and several cuts and abrasions.

Shortly after noon on Wednesday, Harrisburg Police Chief Pierre Ritter said a suspect was in custody and that there was no danger to the public.

The investigation continues and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Quinten Kennedy at 717-255-3157 or email qkennedy@cityofhbg.com.
