Police: Jealousy motive for abduction at HACC

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A woman abducted from a classroom at the main campus of Harrisburg Area Community College told police the incident was motivated by jealousy.

The 34-year-old Harrisburg woman said her boyfriend, 33-year-old Julian Amway, had been in the classroom building at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center and was watching her Wednesday night because he didn't believe that she was attending a class, according to city police.

Police said Amway eventually became enraged and forced the woman out of the classroom and the building, then drove her around the Harrisburg area while repeatedly berating and hitting her.

At one point, police said he made the woman drive to the Dock Street Dam at a high rate of speed. Once there, she ran from the vehicle, but police said Amway chased her and caught up to her just as officers arrived.

Amway indicated he had a handgun when he forced the woman from her class and at one point threatened to kill her, police said, but he was not armed at the time of his arrest. Police said he only had a pipe for using drugs.

Amway, of suburban Harrisburg, was charged with kidnapping, simple assault, terroristic threats, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sent to Dauphin County Prison on $500,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for February 22.
