ELIZABETHVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -
A Dauphin County woman has been ordered to stand trial for killing her ex-husband in their Williamstown home last year and for setting up the crime scene to make it appear as though it were a case of self-defense.
Gina Anne Murphy, 48, was held for court during a preliminary hearing Tuesday before District Judge Rebecca Margerum, who found enough evidence to forward the case to Dauphin County court and set a formal arraignment for April 10.
Murphy initially told police she shot and killed 52-year-old Daniel
Joseph Murphy on August 20 after he threatened her with a knife, but an
investigating grand jury last month determined that she put a
.22-caliber revolver to her ex-husband's chest and fired a shot into his
heart, then planted a knife near his body and inflicted cut wounds to
herself to make it appear as if she were attacked.
According to the grand jury presentment, Murphy's motive for killing her ex-husband was to acquire sole ownership of their home in the 400 block of East Market Street. The two had been divorced but were again living together.
Murphy was returned to Dauphin County Prison after the hearing. She is being held without bail on charges of murder, tampering with evidence, and false swearing.
