LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police say 66-year-old Janice Eileen Harmes killed her 88-year-old mother by failing to provide proper care for her.

Authorities conducted an autopsy and found that Janet Bastendorf died from complications of sepsis.

The forensic pathologist also found a large decubitus ulcer, which was the result of Harmes allowing the victim to sit in a used diaper without moving for 10 days.

Investigators determined that Harmes was her mother's only caretaker, and they say she failed to provide treatment or care for approximately 10 days.

Police say that this is what led to Bastendorf's death, which the Coroner's Office ruled a homicide.

Harmes was charged with third degree murder, felony neglect and reckless endangerment.

On Tuesday Harmes was arraigned and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.
