A man suspected in a fatal shooting inside a Columbia home Wednesday night has turned himself in to police.
Mario Casanova-Lanzo, 36, surrendered Thursday morning. He faces charges of criminal homicide and burglary for the incident at 224 North Third Street.
Officers who responded to the home at 10:16 p.m. found the victim, 36-year-old Parrish Thaxton, dead in a second-floor bedroom, according the criminal complaint. Thaxton, of Bronx, N.Y., had been shot in the head.
Casanova-Lanzo's estranged wife, Holly Casanova, told police that she was in the room when the shooting occurred and identified Casanova-Lanzo as the shooter, the document states.
Casanova said she heard the sound of breaking glass before she saw her estranged husband inside her home with a gun. She said he fled after shooting Thaxton, according to the court document.
Police said in the complaint that a rear kitchen window in the home had been broken, and a back door was unsecured.
Casanova-Lanzo was sent to Lancaster County Prison without bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 7.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting may call the Columbia Borough Police Department at (717) 684-7735.
