HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police in Dauphin County said they arrested a convicted felon after he ran from a traffic stop and was later found to have a stolen handgun.

Donald L. Barbour III, 25, of Harrisburg, was stopped Saturday morning because his vehicle had a suspended license plate, according to Swatara Township police.

The officer was attempting to talk to Barbour when he fled on foot into the Greenbelt behind the McDonald's off Paxton Street. He was arrested in the wooded area a short time later, police said.

The recovered firearm, a .380 caliber handgun, had been reported stolen to state police in Chambersburg in November, authorities said.

Barbour was charged with firearms violations, receiving stolen property, flight to avoid apprehension, and numerous traffic offenses.

He was sent to Dauphin County Prison on a parole detainer.
