LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a Lancaster County man charged in the killing of his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child.

Matthew Becker, 23, faces counts of criminal homicide and criminal homicide of an unborn child in the trial before President Judge Joseph Madenspacher.

Becker's girlfriend, 21-year-old Allison Walsh, was seven months pregnant when she was shot in the head August 12, 2011 at a home along North Colebrook Road in Rapho Township, where Becker and Walsh lived with his parents.

Walsh and her baby, a girl she had named Alexandria Marie, died at a hospital. Investigators said the baby survived for nearly six minutes after her mother's death.

Becker told investigators he was cleaning his gun when it accidentally fired.
