Casey urges Caterpillar to stay in York

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

U.S. Senator Bob Casey is urging Caterpillar Inc. to keep its distribution facility in York County.

Workers at the York Distribution Center in Springettsbury Township were told in September that it's possible the facility could be moved somewhere else in the eastern U.S.

Casey in a letter encouraged Caterpillar CEO Doug Oberhelman to give serious consideration to any option that will protect the 250 jobs at stake and preserve Caterpillar's presence in the region.

The heavy machinery manufacturer has said it will make a decision by March. If the move happens, it would take effect next year.

More than 1,000 jobs were lost when the Illinois-based company closed its manufacturing operation at the York site in 1998.
