Police up presence at Carlisle-area schools

Posted: Updated:
CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

There is an increased police presence at schools in four Carlisle-area school districts and three area private schools because of a non-specific shooting threat to an area elementary school.

"Please be assured that there was no credible evidence to substantiate this information," Cumberland Valley School District said in a letter to parents around 2 p.m. Thursday. "However, we requested the police presence to conduct safety checks throughout the day."

A letter from South Middleton School District to parents said the added presence came after law enforcement informed Carlisle Area School District "of a non-specific threat, generated in a chat room, out of state, of a possible shooting at an elementary school in the Carlisle area."

A police presence was requested at Cumberland Valley, Carlisle, Big Spring, and South Middleton School Districts and St. Patrick School, Carlisle Christian Academy and Grace Baptist.

All school districts said their schools would continued to operate on a normal schedule today.
