CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

State police said they have arrested a 17-year-old from Franklin County for a threat to "shoot up" three elementary schools in the Carlisle area.

The Southampton Township teen, who was not identified, was charged Friday with terroristic threats.

Trooper Robert Hicks said Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI linked the teen to a threat posted in an online chat room. The FBI was contacted Thursday by a man who had seen the posting.

Hicks said the teen admitted to posting the threat, but said he did it just to increase the conversation in the particular chat room.

The charges were filed at Franklin County Juvenile Probation.

Police increased their presence Thursday in four Carlisle-area school districts and at three area private schools because of the threat.

The police presence was requested at Cumberland Valley, Carlisle, Big Spring, and South Middleton School Districts and St. Patrick School, Carlisle Christian Academy and Grace Baptist.
