Liberty Women Are #1 Seed in Big South Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Liberty won its 14th Big South women's basketball regular-season championship, and has earned the No. 1 seed in next week's VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Women's Basketball Championship, it was announced today by the League office. All games of the 2013 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Women's Championship will be played at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The Lady Flames posted a 16-2 record in Big South play.

Winthrop and Presbyterian College each posted identical 14-4 records in Conference action, with the Eagles breaking the tie with a sweep of the Blue Hose this season to earn the No. 2 position. High Point and Campbell posted 11-7 records in Big South play. The Panthers downed Liberty this season to break the tie and pick up the No. 4 spot, with Campbell grabbing the No. 5 position. Radford garnered the No. 6 slot with its 9-9 record in the League. Longwood and Coastal Carolina also tied with 8-10 records in Conference play, with Longwood earning the No. 7 position in the tie breaker procedure. Gardner-Webb earned the No. 9 seed with a 5-13 record in the League, while Charleston Southern's 3-15 record was good for No. 10. UNC Asheville rounds out the seeds at No. 11 as it went 0-18 in Conference play. 

The 2013 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Women's Basketball Championship begins Wednesday, March 6 with three games. The quarterfinals will be played on March 8, and continues with the semifinals on March 9 and the finals on March 10. The first round and quarterfinals will air live on the Big South Network Presented by State Farm and the semifinals and finals will air on ESPN3.com. The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:

First Round - Wednesday, March 6 (The HTC Center, Conway, S.C)

Game 1 – No. 7 Longwood vs. No. 10 Charleston Southern, 12:00pm

Game 2 – No. 6 Radford vs. No. 11 UNC Asheville, 2:00pm

Game 3 – No. 8 Coastal Carolina vs. No. 9 Gardner-Webb, 7:00pm

 

Quarterfinals - Friday, March 8 (The HTC Center, Conway, S.C.)

Game 4 – Winner GM 1 vs. #2 Winthrop, 12:00pm

Game 5 – Winner GM 2 vs. #3 Presbyterian College, 2:00pm

Game 6 - #4 High Point vs. #5 Campbell, 6:00pm

Game 7 – Winner GM 3 vs. #1 Liberty, 8:00pm

Game 8 – Winner GM 4 vs. Winner GM 5, 6:00pm – ESPN3.com
