HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Harrisburg robbery suspect Oneil S. Thompson III in Georgia.
Thompson, 33, was being sought by Harrisburg police for a robbery at S&D's Lounge in the 600 block of Wiconisco Street on June 13, 2012.
According to officers, Thompson robbed the bar and its patrons of their money, jewelry and cell phones. Authorities say Thompson fired a weapon into the ceiling to get the attention of the people in the bar.
Police identified Thompson as the robbery suspect, and on July 27, 2012, a judge issued an arrest warrant against him.
On Feb. 9, 2013, Harrisburg police asked for the U.S. Marshals' help in finding and arresting Thompson. The U.S. Marshals received word that Thompson had fled to DeKalb County in Georgia.
During the afternoon of March 5, Thompson was discovered at a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Dalton, Georgia where he was arrested.
Thompson is awaiting extradition to Dauphin County.
United States Marshal Martin J. Pane commented on the arrest. "The U.S. Marshals Service places a high priority on fugitive cases like this one where violence occurs. Getting Thompson into custody was essential to all the victims of this late night robbery. The Fugitive Task Force worked hard to locate and apprehend him in less than 30 days, and did so in a safe manner," he said.
