Conway, SC - Davon Marshall scored 28 points and Liberty used a late surge to pull away from Coastal Carolina for a 78-61 victory in the first round of the Big South Tournament Tuesday night.
Leading 53-51 with 12 minutes left, the Flames took charge with a 14-1 run. Marshall scored the last eight points in the run with a jumper and two 3-pointers to balloon the lead to 15 with just over three-and-a-half minutes left.
Coastal Carolina, playing on its home court, shot less than 29 percent the second half and made just one of 16 3-pointers for the game. Anthony Raffa led the Chanticleers with 23, Coastal ends the season at 14-and-15.
The Flames will face High Point, the No. 1 seed in the North Division, on Thursday.
