State police in Gettysburg have charged a Biglerville mother and her boyfriend of abusing the mother's 4-year-old daughter.
Wilson Cotto, 26, and Mandy Hertzler, 24, were charged this week with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault, police said.
According to police, Adams County Children and Youth Services was contacted after recent injuries were observed on the girl, who was examined at Gettysburg Hospital on February 27.
According to court documents, the child had more than 60 recent injuries consisting of bruising, abrasions and contusions all over her body. Police believe the injuries occurred over a period of 1-14 days.
During an interview with police, the girl's mother was show photos of the bruises and asked about her involvement.
Police said Hertzler initially denied involvement and blamed it on another child who had come over to play. She later admitted to grabbing a hold of the child and hitting her when she doesn't listen, according to police.
Hertzler told police she never meant to hurt he child but "loses her patience and has no one to help her," according to court paperwork.
Police say Cotto also admitted to punching the child in the butt. Police also believe he is responsible for an adult-sized hand print on the child's hip and buttocks region.
Cotto told police that he had a temper problem and would take any help that was offered, according to paperwork.
