YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -
Police investigating the theft of smartphones from a Radio Shack in Manchester Township are looking into whether the thieves are responsible for similar crimes in Maryland and Virginia.
Northern York County Regional police released surveillance photos of two people they said are involved in all three thefts, which total more than $100,000 in cell phones, mainly Apple iPhones.
Police believe the pair was with two others February 12 when members of the group distracted employees at the Radio Shack at 351 Loucks Road, and one of them into the storage room and removed 69 iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones.
The group then left the store and possible left the area in a white passenger van, police said. The clerks did not realize the theft had occurred until about 10 minutes later.
Investigators said that just before the theft, the same people were acting suspiciously at the Radio Shack in the Cape Horn Commons Plaza near Red Lion, but no theft occurred there.
