Pa. bill would limit outside income for lawmakers

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Pennsylvania legislator has introduced a bill to limit how much income members of the General Assembly could earn from employment outside of their legislative duties.

House Bill 368 would limit outside earned income to a maximum of 35 percent of the legislative salary for state representatives and senators, according to Rep. Tony DeLuca, D-Allegheny.

DeLuca said that outside jobs may create a conflict of interest with legislative priorities, and that his bill would ensure lawmakers are acting in the best interest of their constituents, not special interest groups or private businesses.

The House returns to voting session March 11.
