George Hicks Jr.
CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -
Carlisle's tax collector has been removed from office and will spend two years on probation for selling marijuana to an undercover police officer.
George Hicks Jr., 21, received the sentence Thursday after he pleaded guilty to a single felony count of delivery of a controlled substance. A second count was dismissed.
As part of the sentence, he must pay a $300 fine and receive drug and alcohol treatment.
Judge Christylee Peck also signed an order officially removing Hicks from the tax collector's office. He had been on paid leave while borough officials performed his tax collection duties.
Hicks was scheduled to go on trial March 18. Prosecutors said he twice sold marijuana to an undercover officer at a building near his tax collection office.
After his arrest in August, Hicks told reporters that he uses marijuana to relieve stress. He said he was selling the pot for a friend and called the arrest a set-up.
