A Lancaster woman is facing charges for an armed gas station robbery and for setting a fire at the hospital where she was taken after the crime, according to city police.
Lisa Anne Ruoss, 32, of the 500 block of Manor Street, pulled a box cutter when she demanded money from the Gas Mart at 653 Columbia Avenue at around 12:30 a.m., police said.
When she tried to get behind the counter, she cut the clerk on one of his hands during a struggle, but was eventually restrained by the employee and another person until officers arrived, police said.
Employees were holding Ruoss to the ground when police arrived. She was sent to a local hospital for an evaluation.
While inside the emergency treatment area, police said Ruoss set fire to a set of bed sheets. The fire was quickly extinguished without injury, but the halls were filled with smoke and hospital operations were disrupted.
Ruoss was charged with second-degree felony counts of robbery and risking a catastrophe. She was sent to Lancaster County Prison on $40,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 15.
