MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Mechanicsburg man who worked as a bus driver for the Cumberland Valley School District has been ordered to trial on 56 counts of child sexual abuse.

Stanley E. Richwine, 61, waived his preliminary hearing Monday before District Judge Brenda Knepper, who scheduled a formal arraignment for April 20.

Richwine, who was also employed as a security officer for after-school events, was returned to the Cumberland County Prison after the hearing. His bail has been set at $500,000 cash.

As he was escorted out of the district judge's office, Richwine was asked if he is sorry for what has happened. "Absolutely," he said, but replied that he could not discuss his case when asked if he planned to enter a guilty plea.

Upper Allen Township police on March 1 charged Richwine with eight felony counts each of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors, and unlawful contact with a minor.

Police said he sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13 during a seven-month period that began in July.

According to investigators, Richwine did not have access to his accuser through his employment with Kauffman Bus or the Cumberland Valley School District.
